Anthropic AI Updates: October 30, 2026

1. Claude Code 2.1.314 Adds a Setting to Block Writes Outside the Working Directories

Anthropic released Claude Code v2.1.314 with permissions.blockWritesOutsideWorkingDirectories, a setting that makes the Write, Edit, and NotebookEdit tools refuse paths outside the working directories in every permission mode. Upstreams in the Claude apps gateway can now take an optional groups list, so only developers in the listed identity provider groups are routed to that upstream, including during failover. Bedrock upstreams in the gateway gain guardrail_trace, which logs which Amazon Bedrock guardrail filter fired on a request without recording the matched text. Idle compaction, previously in the terminal only, now also runs in VS Code and the Code tab of Claude Desktop: a conversation of 200K or more tokens left idle is summarized, and the summary is used on the next message if the prompt cache has expired.
