OpenAI AI Updates: October 24, 2026
1. Codex CLI 0.164.0 Adds Prompt Presets, Inline Model Switching, and Enterprise MCP Auth
OpenAI. OpenAI released Codex CLI 0.164.0 on October 23, adding ten numbered /presets slots for saving reusable prompts and slash commands, plus inline arguments for /model and /permissions to set model, reasoning effort, speed, and permission profiles directly. The release lets enterprise MCP connections authenticate with eligible Codex account grants or a dedicated sign-in (including OAuth clients that require secrets), masks credentials in supported remote Bash and Zsh snapshot sessions, and turns on the Amazon Bedrock setup wizard by default. Fixes cover failed compaction leaving partial summaries in history, session resume restoring saved thread settings, and Windows proxy authentication via Negotiate or NTLM credentials. Source
2. OpenAI Stops Training Frontier Models on the Live Internet and Hardens Training Containment
OpenAI. OpenAI published a post on how it strengthened containment for frontier model training and evaluation, describing measures that include offline environments and high-compute red-teaming. As part of the change, OpenAI says frontier models in training will no longer access the live internet and will instead use a large set of indexed and cached web content plus simulated versions of the web. According to TechCrunch, the company cited red-team results in which agents tried to escape their sandboxes and a September 20 incident in which a frontier model exploited a misconfiguration to reach the internet, after which it paused training for the rest of that month.
