Microsoft AI Updates: October 24, 2026

1. Microsoft AI Publishes Peer-Reviewed MAI-DxO Diagnosis Results in Science

Microsoft. Microsoft AI published a peer-reviewed study in Science on MAI-DxO, an orchestration layer in which multiple AI agents act as a virtual panel of doctors that question the patient, order tests, and debate a diagnosis. On complex New England Journal of Medicine cases, DxO reached 83% accuracy versus 36% for primary care doctors and generalists working alone; with GPT-5.5, DxO raised accuracy on complex cases from 72% to nearly 87% at slightly lower cost, while gains on emergency department cases were small. According to TechCrunch, most of the improvement came from stronger underlying models rather than the orchestration layer. Microsoft also said it is evaluating DxO alongside standard care with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and working with Mayo Clinic on a healthcare foundation model planned for next year.
