Meta AI Updates: May 1, 2026

1. Meta Ships Ads AI Connectors in Open Beta with an MCP Server for ChatGPT and Claude

Meta. Meta opened the beta of Ads AI Connectors, a Meta-authenticated MCP server plus CLI that lets advertisers manage campaigns, pull reports, build catalogs, and run diagnostics from inside ChatGPT, Claude, and other MCP-compatible assistants without writing API code. The launch turns Meta’s ad account into an agent-callable surface and slots Meta into the same MCP pattern that Google and TikTok ad partners are already exposing, raising the competitive floor for any agency tooling that still wraps the Marketing API by hand. 2. Business AI Hits 10 Million Weekly Conversations, Up 10x Since January

Meta. On the Q1 call, Meta said its Business AI assistants now handle roughly 10 million conversations per week across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, up from about 1 million at the start of 2026. The 10x ramp gives Meta a rare hard usage number for an agentic product and frames Business AI as the near-term commercial wedge that has to start earning back the $125-145B capex line. Source

3. Zuckerberg Ties 8,000 Layoffs Directly to AI Capex at All-Hands

Meta. At an April 30 town hall, Mark Zuckerberg told staff the planned 8,000 layoffs (with another 6,000 open roles cancelled) are a direct consequence of the higher AI capital spending plan and declined to rule out further cuts. The cuts feed a parallel reorg under new Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang that creates “AI builder,” “AI pod lead,” and “AI org lead” tracks inside Applied AI, making the layoff round less a cost program than a forced migration of headcount onto the Wang org chart.
