1. OpenAI Ships GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst and Flare, Adding Animated GIF and SVG Output, a Complexity Setting and Markup-Guided Edits

OpenAI released Images 2.6 on November 4, describing faster image generation, GIF creation and more precise editing across ChatGPT, Codex and the API. In the API it ships as two models on the Image API’s v1/images/generations and v1/images/edits endpoints: gpt-image-2.6-sunburst for detailed visual work and gpt-image-2.6-flare for fast iteration, and neither model page lists support for the Responses API or Batch. A new complexity field (low, medium or high, defaulting to high, with no separate fee) sets how much the model plans before rendering, independent of quality; OpenAI says higher complexity helps with dense text and complex layouts but can add latency and introduce unwanted changes. Setting output_format to gif on generation returns an animation controlled by frame_count (2 to 64 frames, default 9) and frame_duration_ms (20 to 2,000 ms, default 200), while output_format: "svg" returns static vector XML with n set to 1, and neither format supports streaming, partial images or the edit endpoint. Markup-guided editing, also enabled for supported GPT Image 2.5 models, takes an annotation layer as a markup file on /v1/images/edits to show where a change should happen, with the input image and annotation each capped at 16,777,216 pixels, a 50 MB limit on the annotation file, and no combining with mask or prompt_rewriter. Standard pricing matches the 2.5 models: per 1M tokens, $5 for text input ($1.25 cached), $8 for image input ($2 cached) and $30 for image output. Source Source

2. OpenAI Agrees to Acquire Pierre Computer Company to Expand Codex’s Tools for Building, Understanding and Reviewing Code

OpenAI said it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., describing the deal as expanding Codex’s tools for building, understanding and reviewing code. Pierre describes itself as a company that produces “low level, composable product infrastructure for machine work”; its product is Code Storage, and it maintains the open-source Diffs, Trees and DiffsHub projects. The announcement comes two days after OpenAI described Pando, the Git-compatible backend it built for Codex-scale development. Source

3. OpenAI Hires Former Claude Code Product Head Cat Wu to Lead Product Management for Core Products

OpenAI has hired Cat Wu, until last week head of product for Anthropic’s Claude Code, to lead product management for its Core Products, Business Insider reported on November 4 after Wu announced the move on X. Her exit from Anthropic was reported on November 3: her last day there was October 30, and besides Claude Code she had overseen Cowork, Anthropic’s agent for non-coding work. Business Insider called the hire a coup for OpenAI, whose Codex agent competes directly with Claude Code, and it comes weeks before Anthropic’s expected IPO. Source
