Google AI Updates: October 27, 2026

1. Google Docs and Drive Now Open and Edit Markdown Files Natively

Google. Google Docs and Drive now handle .md files natively, so users can open and edit Markdown in Docs without converting it, with a .md badge marking the file. Google pitches the change at developers and AI agents co-editing the same documentation: Docs line-level comments, tracked suggestions, and version history record revisions from both human and AI contributors, while the underlying file stays intact for git repositories and developer tools. Drive shows rendered previews (including tables and hyperlinks) with a toggle to raw text. Anyone with a Google or Workspace account can start by uploading a .md file to Drive. Source

2. Google Launches “Polar Peaks,” an AI Quests Lesson on Brain Mapping

Google. Google Research and the Stanford Accelerator for Learning released Polar Peaks, the third lesson in AI Quests, an interactive series that teaches students ages 11 to 14 how AI works. Students scan and map neurons to diagnose a character’s memory loss, doing data cleaning and model testing based on more than a decade of Google Research connectomics work. Google says more than 400,000 quests have been completed across 10 languages, and a teacher training module for the new quest is due next month. Source
