1. Mistral Releases Timestral, Its First Time-Series Foundation Model Family
Mistral. Mistral released Timestral, a family of four time-series foundation models at 5M, 28M, 123M, and 209M parameters that produce probabilistic, multivariate forecasts and support past-only and known-future covariates. Mistral reports the 209M model ranks first among pre-trained zero-shot models on GIFT-Eval, TIME, and fev-bench from a single checkpoint, and that the 28M model beats Chronos-2 (about four times larger) on GIFT-Eval and TIME. Inference does not require a GPU: on an 8-thread server CPU, a one-day-ahead forecast from three weeks of 15-minute history takes 10 ms with the 5M model and 140 ms with the 209M model. The models are pre-trained on synthetic data with an 8192 context, post-trained on mixed real and synthetic data with 4x longer context, and available for fine-tuning and architectural extension through Mistral Forge.
