1. Vercel AI Gateway Adds DeepSeek Search and Fetch Tools at $0.75 per 1,000 Requests, Usable With Any Tool-Calling Model
Vercel made DeepSeek Search and DeepSeek Fetch available through AI Gateway on November 6. Search returns relevant pages with titles, URLs and summaries, and Fetch returns a page’s content as Markdown for the model to read; both work with any model that supports tool calling under a single AI Gateway API key, with no DeepSeek account, and stay the same when switching model providers. The helpers require AI SDK 6.0.321 or later on v6, or 7.0.160 or later on v7, and Fetch can also retrieve URLs returned by other search tools, so it can serve as the page reader behind a fallback search provider (Vercel notes fallback is model-directed, so provider order and retries are best effort). Each tool costs $0.75 per 1,000 billable requests, with no charge for failures, timeouts or empty results; model tokens are billed separately. Source
2. Humans& Ampersand, a Model That Decides When to Speak in Group Chats, Is Free on AI Gateway Through November 13
Vercel added Ampersand (humansand/ampersand-v0.1) from Humans& to AI Gateway, free through November 13, 2026. The model is built to take part in group conversations such as team chats and to decide each turn whether to contribute, for example by asking a clarifying question or sharing context, or to stay quiet while people talk to each other. Applications expose two caller-defined function tools, send_message to post a contribution and pass to wait for the next human message, and execute both themselves; tool choice must stay at the default because Ampersand accepts auto and none but rejects required and named tool choices. It can be called through the AI SDK, the OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions API or a coding agent. Source
3. Vercel Tracing Reaches General Availability With KQL Search in the Dashboard and CLI, On by Default for New Next.js Projects
Vercel made Vercel Tracing generally available on all plans with pricing unchanged from the beta. A new Traces page lists every trace and span for a project or a whole team, with Spans and Traces views, Kibana Query Language search (for example span.name:db* AND span.duration > 500) and a Live mode that streams new traces, replacing the beta’s per-request view from the Logs page. The same KQL runs in the CLI through vercel traces search --query, alongside vercel traces inspect for a single trace and vercel traces config for sampling rules. Starting with Next.js 16.5, new projects on Vercel with at least one Node.js function get tracing turned on after their first successful build, whereas the beta collected nothing until a sampling rule was added.
