OpenAI AI Updates: October 8, 2026

1. GPT-6 Becomes the Default ChatGPT Model for All Tiers, With Generative “Intelligent UI”

OpenAI. OpenAI began a global rollout of GPT-6 in ChatGPT on October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users (backed by GPT-6 Sol), expanding to Free and Go users (backed by GPT-6 Luna) from October 8. The launch pairs the model with Intelligent UI, which renders answers as charts, maps, forms, buttons, and small interactive tools (for example a savings calculator with adjustable inputs) using a library of native components and a compiler that builds the interface while the model is still generating; plain text remains the fallback when it is the most useful format. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search queries 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. The change applies to Chat only: the models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex are unchanged. OpenAI. The October 7 Codex changelog entry for the ChatGPT iOS app adds inline page previews in responses and lets Codex task links open directly on iOS. Other changes include a redesigned approval picker with clearer permission choices, a single Plugins entry in the composer’s plus menu, faster streaming in long threads, and improved worktree support so files and changes match the checkout used on desktop. New tasks now keep the selected computer while it reconnects or is offline, and manual pairing accepts pasted, formatted codes. Source

3. ChatGPT for Teens Gets a College Planner, Flashcards, and Quizzes

OpenAI. OpenAI announced that a College Planner is coming to ChatGPT for Teens to help students manage college applications, alongside new flashcard and quiz study tools. The company is also forming a teen AI council to gather input from younger users on how AI products are built.
