1. Copilot Code Review Can Now Be Requested Through the REST and GraphQL APIs

GitHub Copilot. GitHub now lets developers request a Copilot code review through its REST and GraphQL APIs, with an optional parameter to set the review effort level per request so reviews can be triggered from existing scripts and workflows. The “Default” effort level now maps to “Balanced,” a change that took effect September 28, 2026, while organizations that explicitly chose “Lite” keep that setting. The default can be overridden at the enterprise, organization, repository, or personal level, and the feature is available on Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise. Source

2. GitHub Copilot Retires Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code, and Claude Opus 4.7

GitHub Copilot. As of October 2, 2026, GitHub removed Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code, and Claude Opus 4.7 from all Copilot experiences, including Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions. GitHub suggests Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3, and Claude Opus 5.5 as replacements. Enterprise administrators need to enable the alternative models through their model policies, but no action is required to remove the deprecated ones. Source
