Meta. Meta expanded safety features for Meta AI aimed at protecting teenagers, including a system that alerts supervising parents when a teen’s conversation with the assistant suggests they may be at risk of suicide or self-harm. The alerts include links to support resources and are available to parents using Instagram parental supervision in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, with a global rollout planned by year-end. Meta also described a mechanism that contacts emergency services when a conversation indicates imminent suicide risk regardless of the user’s age, and noted teens are automatically placed in a 13-plus content setting that blocks sexual or romantic exchanges and other inappropriate requests.
