1. Cohere releases North Mini Code, an open coding model for developers

Cohere. Cohere introduced North-Mini-Code-1.0, an open-source mixture-of-experts model with 30B total parameters and 3B active, released under the Apache 2.0 license. The model targets code generation, agentic software engineering, and terminal tasks, and supports a 256K context length with up to 64K maximum generation. Weights are available on Hugging Face, with deployment through Cohere’s Model Vault, OpenCode, or API access. Source

2. North Mini Code reports throughput gains over comparable small models

Cohere. Cohere reported that North Mini Code scored 33.4 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Index. The company stated the model delivers up to 2.8x higher output throughput than Devstral Small 2 and a 30% advantage in inter-token latency, while noting the competing model held a slight edge on time-to-first-token. Cohere lists a minimum hardware setup of one H100 at FP8. Source
