AWS AI Updates: May 23, 2026

1. SageMaker Unified Studio brings AI-generated cataloging and Lake Formation governance to IAM-based domains

AWS. SageMaker Unified Studio now supports business context, metadata, and data governance for IAM-based domains, closing the gap with Identity Center deployments that already had these features. Users can attach READMEs, glossaries, and structured metadata form templates to AWS Glue Data Catalog tables, and an AI-generated metadata feature can produce business names and descriptions automatically so teams do not have to hand-catalog every table at scale. Table-level subscription requests now flow through to automatic AWS Lake Formation permission grants once an administrator approves, and the capability is live in every region where Unified Studio runs. 2. AWS Transform adds agentic migration assessment with what-if scenarios and TCO modeling

AWS. AWS Transform, the agentic migration service, gained an assessment workflow that ingests RVTools exports, CMDB data, AWS Transform discovery output, or third-party discovery files and produces total-cost-of-ownership analyses across EC2, FSx, S3, SQL Server on EC2, and virtual desktop infrastructure. Customers can build comparative what-if scenarios by varying region, resource utilization, and service mapping assumptions, then extend the case beyond raw cost into staff productivity, operational resilience, business agility, and sustainability dimensions. The assessment capability is available in all regions where AWS Transform is offered, and is aimed at replacing the multi-week spreadsheet exercise that typically precedes a large migration. Source
