Apple AI Updates: October 31, 2026
1. Apple Intelligence Comes to China in December With iOS 27.3 and Alibaba’s Qwen
Apple announced that the first Apple Intelligence features will reach iPhone users in mainland China with iOS 27.3 in December, with testing in the iOS developer beta starting November 4. The launch covers the features Apple shipped elsewhere over the past two years, including Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, Phone and supported AirPods, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence, Clean Up, Genmoji, natural-language search and Memory Movies in Photos, Mail and notification summaries and priorities, Smart Reply, Notes and call transcript summaries, and Type to Siri with better context across follow-ups, but not Siri AI or the other next-generation features from WWDC 2026. Through a partnership with Alibaba, Qwen powers selected experiences in Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, such as questions about photos, PDFs and presentations and a Compose option in Writing Tools, with users signing in with a Qwen account or Sign in with Apple, while Apple says the remaining features run on its own generative models. The release is iPhone only (iPhone 15 Pro and later, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo) with device and Siri language set to English or Simplified Chinese, and other platforms follow after regulatory approval. The Next Web reports that China’s internet regulator approved the setup in July and that Apple trained a China-only model with Alibaba’s help. Source Source
