Cohere AI Updates: October 31, 2026
1. Cohere Commits More Than C$4 Billion to Canadian R&D and Infrastructure Through 2031 and Plans 1,500 Canadian Hires
Cohere said it is advancing a commitment of more than C$4 billion in research, development and AI infrastructure in Canada between 2024 and 2031, spread across several provinces. The plan includes more than 1,500 Canada-based roles by 2031, about 1,000 of them technical positions, and more than 250 paid student roles by 2029. On the compute side, Cohere cites a C$309 million GPU cloud partnership with Bell AI Fabric that will let its models run on sovereign Canadian infrastructure, though the post gives no regions, availability dates or API details. Academic pieces include a multi-year initiative with the University of Toronto on responsible AI adoption at scale, a collaboration with the University of Waterloo’s Future of Work Institute on specialized certificates and co-op programs, and continued work with Amii, Vector and Mila. Cohere frames the commitment against Canada’s national AI strategy, which targets a 3% GDP increase and up to 250,000 AI-related jobs by 2031, and cites Statistics Canada data that 12% of Canadian businesses used AI to produce goods or deliver services in 2025. The post announces no new models, API features or pricing changes. It follows the Series E and Cohere Cyber plans announced on October 29. Source
