Anthropic AI Updates: October 29, 2026

1. Anthropic Expands AI for Science to 20 Foundations, Institutions, and Research Projects

Anthropic expanded its AI for Science program, which gives free Claude credits to researchers, from individual scientists to 20 partner organizations. Funders that will distribute credits to researchers include the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Simons Foundation, Schmidt Sciences, Renaissance Philanthropy’s Open Source for Science Fund, the US National Science Foundation, and CAS (a division of the American Chemical Society). Institutions using credits internally include the Space Telescope Science Institute, Wellcome Sanger Institute, the Francis Crick Institute, Imperial College London’s Department of Life Sciences, EMBL, and the Gladstone Institutes. Directly funded projects include Princeton’s FlyWire connectome, Columbia’s LEAP climate modeling center, Johns Hopkins’ AstroPath, the Broad Institute’s gnomAD, the Tau Ceti Lean mathematics library, and Australia’s Centre for Population Genomics. Anthropic also cited existing work with HHMI Janelia on the Model Hardware Standard (in research preview), a specification that lets AI agents safely operate lab instruments. Source

Anthropic added a gallery of artifacts (interactive tools such as trackers and dashboards) to Claude for Legal. First-party artifacts include a cite check, a jurisdiction survey matrix, a matter board, a playbook deviation board, a regulatory horizon scan, and a tabular contract review. Each opens with an example, links every output to its source, and can be tailored with a team’s own data and connectors. Partner-built artifacts include Goodwin’s AI Governance Benchmark, Harvey Intake, Foley & Lardner’s Obligations Checker, and PwC’s Subpoena Response Tool, with more coming from Legora and Orrick. Anthropic says it has added more than 60 legal connectors since launch, including Bloomberg Law, Filevine, Ivo, Legora, and Patlytics, and that sharing settings support ethical walls between teams. It is also funding access-to-justice groups and legal education programs and starting a Legal Ambassadors Program. Source

3. Claude Enterprise Gets Smart Reports, In-App Surveys, and Pooled Group Budgets

Anthropic made three admin features generally available for Claude Enterprise. Smart reports analyze a sample of a team’s transcripts for a chosen date range and products, group the work into workstreams with spend, deliverables, and common friction points (such as a missing connector or failed tool call), and produce recommendations like workflows to turn into skills. Anthropic states the reports are for adoption and investment planning, not individual performance evaluation. In-app surveys show members a short card after a reply, with customizable questions and spreadsheet export. Pooled group budgets give a team one shared monthly budget while per-member limits remain as a guardrail, with in-product requests for more budget and admin email alerts at 50%, 75%, 95%, and 100%. Availability varies for HIPAA and customer-managed encryption key configurations. Source
