1. Perplexity Explains the Git-Backed Filesystem Behind Projects in Perplexity Computer
Perplexity. Perplexity Engineering described how Projects, a shared workspace where people and agents collaborate on long-running tasks in Perplexity Computer, backs each project with a Git repository stored on AWS S3Files and accessed from ephemeral sandboxes on its in-house SPACE platform. Submits are accepted only if built on the current head, with fewer than 2% rejected as stale, median submit latency under 1.7 seconds and p99 under 8 seconds, and warm checkouts attaching in about 2.9 seconds versus roughly 8 seconds cold. The team rejected a FUSE-based virtual filesystem after a prototype ran about 400 times slower on filesystem-heavy workloads, and instead uses lazy Git LFS checkouts so agents fetch only the files they need. On 150 single-document financial questions, its file-exploration agent scored 0.867 on retrieval and 0.627 on answers, versus roughly 0.39 and 0.37 for semantic search, with about 25% lower latency.
