1. Docker Cloud Sandboxes Let Long-Running Agent Tasks Move From Laptop to Cloud With One Command

InfoQ. Sergio De Simone reports that Docker Cloud Sandboxes extends Docker Sandboxes with cloud-hosted execution for AI coding agents, using hardware-enforced microVM isolation in both local and remote environments. A single command, sbx move my-project --to cloud, captures the sandbox filesystem and recreates it on Docker-managed infrastructure, so a developer can start an agent task locally and hand it off when it needs more resources or will run for hours. Docker also shipped preconfigured sandbox kits that follow the Docker Sandbox Kit Specification v3 and are packaged as standard OCI images usable with build and pull. Source

2. A Former Netflix and Twitter Leader Argues Fresh Features Beat Sophisticated Models in Adaptive Recommenders

InfoQ. In a talk published September 26, Mallika Rao, a former engineering leader at Twitter, Walmart, and Netflix, lays out a design where multiple retrieval strategies (embedding, behavioral, popularity, and trend-aware) feed a shared candidate pool, followed by an orchestration layer that balances relevance, diversity, exploration, and long-term satisfaction. She recommends budgeting latency across the whole pipeline rather than only model inference, and tiering models so lightweight CPU models handle routine requests while GPU models take the complex cases. Her central claim is that “a simpler model with fresher information frequently outperforms a more sophisticated model operating on stale information,” and she warns that offline dashboards can stay green while online engagement falls. 3. QCon AI New York Program Frames AI Engineering as Systems Engineering

InfoQ. Artenisa Chatziou previews QCon AI New York (December 15 to 16, 2026), where conference chair Hien Luu argues the challenge has shifted from model behavior to system behavior: bounded execution authority for agents, context and state management, and deterministic control planes around probabilistic models. Confirmed sessions include 1Password CTO Nancy Wang on why identity assumptions break when agents act as users, LinkedIn’s Ronak Nathani on guardrails for a Kubernetes operations agent managing more than 500,000 nodes, and Netflix’s Rajat Shah on consolidating serving for 300+ models at one million requests per second. DoorDash’s Bruna Pereira will cover evaluating moderation systems without clean ground truth, including shadow-mode testing and using LLM judgments to train cheaper classifiers. Source
