Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, said on X that Muse was “definitely heavily inspired as a product by OpenClaw” while maintaining it was “built from scratch.” The admission followed a viral thread in which users found Muse ships a SOUL.md agent personality file with the same name and near-identical content to OpenClaw’s, along with matching workspace file names. Asked directly about the duplication, Friedman replied that Peter Steinberger, OpenClaw’s creator, “got those things exactly right,” and said he bought hundreds of Mac minis for the MSL team after using OpenClaw in January.
