Microsoft AI Updates: May 6, 2026
1. Microsoft Publishes 2026 Work Trend Index, Expands Copilot Cowork
Microsoft. Jared Spataro published Microsoft’s 2026 Work Trend Index findings, framing four human-agent collaboration patterns — Author, Editor, Director, and Orchestrator — and arguing the bottleneck for AI value is no longer individual capability but how work is structured. A privacy-preserving analysis of more than 100,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot chats found 49% support cognitive work such as analysis and problem-solving, while 58% of AI users (80% among advanced users) report producing work that was previously impossible. Alongside the report, Microsoft expanded Copilot Cowork with iOS and Android apps, new plugins from LSEG, Miro, and S&P Global, and custom plugin capabilities for organizations. Source
