1. DeepMind Researchers Propose “Artificial Symbiotic Intelligence” as an Alternative to the Singularity

Google DeepMind. In an essay published by the DeepMind Institute, Benjamin Bratton, Blaise Agüera y Arcas, and James Manyika argue that advanced AI will emerge from networks of humans and machines that “coexist over time, shape one another, and make decisions together” rather than from a single isolated superintelligence. The framework treats agents as decomposable, temporary assemblages, frames alignment as ongoing negotiation between people and systems, and emphasizes institutional coordination over individual model capability. It draws on two companion preprints, “Agentic AI and the next intelligence explosion” and “Reasoning Models Generate Societies of Thought.” Source
