Meta AI Updates: July 14, 2026

1. Meta Pulls Muse Image, Its First Superintelligence Labs Image Model, After Privacy Backlash

Meta. Meta withdrew Muse Image, the first AI image generation product from its Superintelligence Labs, fewer than three days after launching it on July 8. The tool offered 30 filters that could interpret a photo’s scene, lighting, and composition and let users apply effects to Instagram content, including images of other people’s public accounts, which drew swift criticism over consent. SAG-AFTRA condemned the feature, saying anything short of a clear opt-in for such uses of users’ images is unacceptable. Meta acknowledged the launch “missed the mark” and removed the product after feedback, an early stumble for the new lab led by AI chief Alexandr Wang. Source
