1. Apple Introduces Third-Generation Foundation Models Built With Google

Apple detailed its third generation of Apple Foundation Models (AFM 3), a family of five models custom-built in collaboration with Google. The lineup includes two on-device models, AFM 3 Core at 3 billion parameters and AFM 3 Core Advanced, a 20-billion-parameter sparse model that activates 1 to 4 billion parameters, plus three server models: AFM 3 Cloud, ADM 3 Cloud (Image) for image generation and editing, and the most capable AFM 3 Cloud Pro for complex reasoning. Apple says all models run exclusively on-device and on Private Cloud Compute with no user data retained or shared, and that it worked with Google and NVIDIA to extend Private Cloud Compute to NVIDIA GPUs in Google Cloud for the Cloud Pro model.
