Google AI Updates: May 25, 2026

1. Google DeepMind makes EVE Online its next agent testbed via a Fenris Creations partnership

Google. Google DeepMind formalized a research partnership with Fenris Creations, the Icelandic studio formerly known as CCP Games, to use EVE Online as a live training environment for AI agents, with the deal framed around three problems DeepMind has flagged as the hardest open questions in agent research: long-horizon planning across multi-month campaigns, adversarial memory that persists for years, and continual learning against human opponents who adapt. EVE has been running uninterrupted since 2003, so its player-driven economy, alliances, and wars give DeepMind a 23-year non-resetting world that no synthetic benchmark can reproduce. To keep the live game clean, DeepMind trains on offline copies of EVE and feeds agents only the pixel stream a human player would see rather than direct API access to game state, positioning the project as the successor to AlphaGo and SIMA on a much longer time horizon.
