Microsoft AI Updates: October 17, 2026
1. Microsoft Foundry September Recap: Routines, Tool Search, and Insights for Agents
Microsoft. Microsoft’s September Foundry roundup lists several agent platform features that reached general availability on September 24: Routines, which start an agent from a timer, recurring schedule, GitHub issue event, or Teams channel event, and Tool Search, which exposes discovery and invocation through tool_search and call_tool so agents do not have to load every tool definition up front. Hosted-agent Toolboxes and A2A are also GA. In public preview are voice agents, recovery of long-running hosted-agent tasks after a client disconnects, and Insights, which groups recurring trace behavior into findings with evidence, likely causes, and suggested fixes. Model Router gains session affinity and request-level routing metadata and expands to 32 regions, and Foundry Local 2.1.0 can register compatible ONNX Runtime GenAI models without copying their files. 2. Windows 11 Adds Search Actions and a Copilot-Powered Ink Canvas
Microsoft. Windows 11 taskbar search now supports Actions, which complete common tasks such as toggling dark mode or night light, or arranging open windows, directly from search results. Actions are available to Windows Insiders now, with a broader rollout planned for later this year. Microsoft also released Microsoft Ink Canvas, a pen and touch app where Copilot turns selected notes, drawings, and references into visual or written output. It comes preinstalled on the Surface Pro 12-inch (2nd Edition) and is in the Microsoft Store for other touch devices, but its AI features require a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium, or Pro subscription and are subject to usage limits. 3. GitHub Copilot Integrates With Logitech’s MX Keypad
Microsoft. GitHub and Logitech integrated the GitHub Copilot app into the Logitech MX Keypad, after roughly 18 months of work. Programmable keys can submit a parameterized prompt, open or resume a Copilot session, invoke an IDE command, or trigger a multi-step sequence. Buying the keypad from Logitech’s shop includes three months of GitHub Copilot Pro+. GitHub VP of Developer Relations Martin Woodward framed the integration as an early step toward voice, intent, and physical controls as developer interfaces. Source
