1. Ai2 Releases HiRO-ACEv2 for 3 km Global Weather Simulation on the Hub
Ai2. In a post on the Hugging Face blog, Ai2 released HiRO-ACEv2, which pairs its ACE climate emulator (about 100 km resolution) with HiROv2, a downscaling model that now predicts several high-resolution fields at once instead of only precipitation, producing 3 km global output. Both components were trained against X-SHiELD, a high-resolution global atmospheric model, and Ai2 reports matching its high-resolution statistics within 3%, including rare extremes and tropical cyclone energy, at roughly 1/300th of X-SHiELD’s cost for global data. The current release only works with the X-SHiELD-tuned ACE, so it cannot yet generate warmer-climate or ERA5 historical scenarios. Weights are on the Hub at allenai/HiRO-ACEv2, with a paper on arXiv, a web demo, and tutorial notebooks. Source
