OpenAI AI Updates: September 2, 2026

1. OpenAI Says Astra Is the First Model to Hit the Critical Cyber Threshold

OpenAI. Astra is the first OpenAI model to meet the Critical cybersecurity capability threshold under the Preparedness Framework, meaning it is strong enough at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities to require heightened safeguards before release. OpenAI published the safeguards it is putting in place ahead of launch rather than at launch, covering access controls, monitoring, and misuse detection for the offensive-security capability class. The post is a preview of the release process, not a general availability announcement. Source

2. ChatGPT Connects to EHR Systems for Clinicians

OpenAI. Healthcare organizations can now connect electronic health record systems and other industry data sources to ChatGPT, giving clinicians patient context and medical research in the same session. The Epic integration provides read-only access to health records rather than write access. The connector targets organizations that already run ChatGPT under enterprise agreements and need patient data to stay inside existing access controls. Source

3. Codex CLI 0.152.1 Fixes Guardian Approval for Node REPL Policies

OpenAI. The 0.152.1 patch makes Guardian approval review honor Node REPL policies supplied through model metadata, closing a gap where policy-restricted REPL invocations could be reviewed under the wrong rules. It follows 0.152.0, which added Vim-mode / and ? search in drafts, actionable rate-limit banners for usage and credits, and credential-refresh progress in the terminal UI and codex exec, including Amazon Bedrock reauthentication. 4. ChatGPT for iOS Adds a Priority View and Cross-Host Attachments

OpenAI. The iOS release extends attachments to all connected hosts, including Windows and Linux, and adds video attachments from the Photo Library plus a press-and-hold shortcut for recent photos. A new Priority view surfaces running tasks, unread updates, and tasks awaiting a response at the top of the task list, and queued prompts now sync with the connected host, stay editable, and send while the app is backgrounded. Long-running tasks display live working time, and task menus can copy the thread ID. Source

5. OpenAI Publishes a Field Guide to AI-Native Company Workflows

OpenAI. The post walks through how Basis, Clay, and Exa Labs wire agents into onboarding, account management, and developer integrations rather than bolting a chatbot onto existing processes. Each case study focuses on the operating change, such as which handoffs were removed and what the agent owns end to end. It is aimed at enterprise leaders looking for concrete deployment patterns rather than capability demos. Source
