1. Open ASR Leaderboard Adds Hindi and Indian English

Hugging Face. A Hugging Face blog post announced that the Open ASR Leaderboard added Hindi and Indian English, its first languages from the Global South and the first Indic entries on a multilingual tab that previously covered only European languages. The evaluation uses two new datasets, Monsoon en-IN and Monsoon hi-IN, comprising 4,888 speakers across four splits with minimal repetition so results reflect diverse voices rather than a few prolific contributors. The Hindi sets apply lattice scoring that accepts multiple valid orthographic variants to handle code-mixing and spelling variation, and testing revealed regional performance gaps that aggregate scores hide.
