Perplexity AI Updates: August 5, 2026
1. Appeals Court Overturns Ban on Perplexity’s Comet Shopping Agent on Amazon
Perplexity. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals lifted a March injunction that had barred Perplexity’s Comet browser agent from accessing Amazon to shop on behalf of users. The panel ruled that Amazon was unlikely to succeed on its claim that Perplexity violated federal computer hacking law, reasoning that it was Perplexity’s users, not Perplexity itself, who accessed Amazon’s platform through the agent. The decision is the first federal appeals court ruling addressing whether AI agents acting on a user’s behalf can legally access online platforms, restoring Comet’s “Buy with Pro” shopping feature on Amazon.
