1. Cohere Releases Transcribe Arabic, an Open-Source Arabic Speech Recognition Model

Cohere. Cohere released Transcribe Arabic, an open-source (Apache 2.0) automatic speech recognition model built specifically for Arabic dialects, code-switching, and bilingual Arabic-English speech. The model achieves a 25.87 word error rate on the Hugging Face Arabic ASR Leaderboard, improving on Meta’s OmniASR-LLM-7B by 2.45 points and outperforming OpenAI’s Whisper Large V3 by roughly 11 points, with human reviewers preferring it over Whisper in 96 percent of tests. Weights and quickstart code are available on Hugging Face, alongside hosted access via the Cohere API and Model Vault. Source
