Microsoft AI Updates: May 20, 2026
1. NTT DATA to acquire WinWire to scale agentic AI on Azure and Fabric
Microsoft. NTT DATA announced its intent to acquire Santa Clara-based Microsoft partner WinWire, bringing more than 1,000 Azure engineers and Microsoft specialists into its enterprise AI practice once the deal closes, with completion targeted for Q3 2026 and financial terms undisclosed. The combined organization plans to accelerate production-grade agentic AI delivery on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric, focusing on industry-specific solutions for financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail. The move deepens one of the largest Microsoft systems integrator relationships at a time when Microsoft is pushing customers from agent experimentation into governed, scaled deployments via Agent 365 and Foundry. 2. Microsoft Marketplace ships auto activation for SaaS purchases
Microsoft. Microsoft introduced auto activation for SaaS offers in Microsoft Marketplace, decoupling billing from fulfillment so that customer subscriptions and billing begin the moment a transaction completes rather than waiting on a partner-issued activation API call. Existing plans default to off and require republishing to enable the setting, while new plans default to on, and Marketplace now sends a real-time webhook on completed purchase so partners can trigger onboarding flows without polling. The change applies to private offers as well and is positioned to reduce friction in the Copilot- and Foundry-adjacent ISV channel that Microsoft has been routing through Marketplace. Source
3. Azure Migrate Collector targets weeks-to-hours migration planning for AI workloads
Microsoft. Microsoft published partner guidance for Azure Migrate Collector, a workshop-to-deck workflow that scans a customer’s IT estate offline, enriches inventory with tags and application groupings, and outputs a stakeholder-ready PowerPoint with lift-and-shift options, security posture guidance, and cost insights. The tool collapses migration planning from weeks of manual research and spreadsheet wrangling into hours, with application-level assessments available for deeper workload plans. Microsoft is pitching the motion to global systems integrators and enterprise software development companies as the fast path to land Azure modernization deals that subsequently attach AI Foundry, Copilot, and Fabric workloads.
