Cohere AI Updates: May 17, 2026
1. SAP Sapphire lists Cohere as a sovereign-model option for the new Autonomous Enterprise stack
Cohere. At SAP Sapphire in Orlando on May 12, SAP unveiled its Autonomous Enterprise ecosystem and named Cohere as a sovereign model option on SAP’s cloud infrastructure alongside Mistral, sitting next to Anthropic Claude, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, and NVIDIA in SAP’s foundation-model roster. The package includes a unified SAP Business AI Platform, the SAP Autonomous Suite with more than 50 domain-specific Joule Assistants, the new Joule Work UX, and a 100 million euro partner fund to accelerate AI assistant deployment. The Cohere listing extends the February 2026 SAP-Cohere sovereign AI expansion (which embedded Cohere’s models and the North agentic platform into SAP’s EU AI Cloud starting in Canada) into the full Sapphire Joule lineup. 2. Computer Weekly details Cohere’s Joule integration scope for data-residency customers
Cohere. Follow-up coverage from Computer Weekly on May 13 clarified that the sovereign model options from Cohere and Mistral are routed through SAP’s cloud infrastructure specifically to address data-residency and compliance requirements, with integration into the new SAP Business AI Platform that powers agentic workflows behind the 50+ Joule Assistants. SAP did not disclose a specific general-availability timeline for the Cohere-backed sovereign options, and the listing is the most prominent enterprise-software placement Cohere has secured since the April 24 Aleph Alpha merger announcement. The expansion gives Cohere distribution into SAP’s installed base across regulated industries that have so far been wary of pure US-hyperscaler model endpoints. Source
