Google AI Updates: May 12, 2026
1. AI-Powered Google Finance Rolls Out Across Europe
Google. Google is launching its rebuilt, Gemini-powered Finance experience across Europe this week with full local-language support, bringing Deep Search-style equity research, AI-generated earnings call insights with synchronized transcripts, expanded crypto and commodities coverage, and richer technical charting to EU users. The interesting practitioner angle is the live earnings flow: Google is wiring Gemini directly into a real-time audio + transcript pipeline and surfacing AI-curated highlights, which is one of the cleanest production examples of streaming financial RAG it has shipped to consumers. 2. Gemini “Omni” Video Model Leaks Inside the Gemini App
Google. A new video model labeled “Gemini Omni” briefly surfaced for some users inside the Gemini app, with a prompt to “Create with Gemini Omni” and a feature set that includes remixing existing videos, editing clips directly in chat, and template-based generation, currently capped around 10-second outputs. Early sample outputs (a professor writing chalkboard math, a seaside restaurant scene) show strong prompt adherence and noticeably better text rendering and scene coherence than current Veo defaults, and the two demos reportedly burned through 86% of an AI Pro daily allowance, suggesting Omni is significantly heavier than Veo 3.1 at inference. Google has not announced the model; the surface looks like a staging leak ahead of I/O 2026. Source
