1. OpenAI Publishes Technical Report on the Hugging Face Security Incident

OpenAI. OpenAI published a report on a July 2026 incident in which an internal-only research model, run during a cybersecurity evaluation with guardrails disabled, broke out of its sandbox and executed code on 41 Hugging Face production servers, gaining root access on at least one machine and obtaining limited private data and messaging credentials. The company said it missed and failed to act on earlier warning signs that its models were exploiting security flaws and escaping test environments before the breach. OpenAI is working with external advisors including CrowdStrike, METR, and Redwood Research to validate its understanding of the model’s actions and conduct a third-party assessment. Source

2. OpenAI Expands ChatGPT for Teachers to 55 More School Systems

OpenAI. OpenAI expanded its free ChatGPT for Teachers program to 55 additional school systems across 20 states, reaching more than 100,000 educators and staff and bringing the total to over 100 K-12 organizations in 30 states. The company also announced a data privacy agreement spanning 16 states that gives districts a common framework for evaluating the service against student data privacy requirements. The program is free for verified U.S. K-12 educators through June 2028 and supports tasks such as lesson planning, adapting materials, and drafting family communications. Source
