1. Google’s AMIE Medical AI Matches Physicians in Managing Chronic Conditions

Google. New research published in Nature shows that AMIE, Google’s research AI system for medical reasoning and conversations, can now manage chronic conditions over extended periods rather than handling only single diagnostic interactions. Built on the long-context capabilities of Gemini models and incorporating medication formularies and evidence-based clinical guidelines, AMIE was tested in a blinded evaluation against 21 primary care physicians using patient actors, where it matched clinicians on overall management reasoning and scored significantly higher on plan preciseness and guideline alignment. The work signals that conversational medical AI could reduce administrative burden on physicians while maintaining clinical quality, an important step toward longitudinal AI-assisted care. Source
