1. DeepMind Builds AI Planning Assistant to Accelerate UK House-Building

Google DeepMind. The lab is partnering with the UK government to develop an AI-powered prototype designed to speed up the processing of housing planning applications. The work builds on Extract, a Gemini-based tool that converts legacy planning documents into usable data, and adds a new AI assistant that helps planning officers consolidate information, identify relevant policies, summarize consultation feedback, and draft assessment reports. The stated goal is to cut application decision times by 50 percent, with testing in Barnet, Camden, and Dorset ahead of a national rollout in 2027. Source
