AWS AI Updates: April 3, 2026

1. Amazon CloudWatch Launches OTel Container Insights for Amazon EKS

AWS. Amazon CloudWatch introduced OpenTelemetry-based Container Insights for Amazon EKS in public preview, providing deeper visibility into Kubernetes clusters by collecting a broader set of metrics and automatically enriching them with Kubernetes metadata and custom labels. Teams can query the enriched metrics using PromQL directly inside CloudWatch Query Studio, consolidating Kubernetes observability alongside other AWS service metrics without additional tooling or data pipelines. The feature is aimed at platform engineering teams running AI and general-purpose workloads on EKS who want full-stack observability without exporting data to a third-party system. Source

2. Amazon CloudWatch Accepts Native OpenTelemetry Protocol Metrics in Public Preview

AWS. Amazon CloudWatch now natively ingests OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) metrics, allowing teams to combine custom OTel-instrumented metrics with AWS-vended metrics from more than 70 services and query them together using PromQL. Previously, developers had to run a conversion layer or additional collector infrastructure to get OTel metrics into CloudWatch; the new native endpoint eliminates that requirement and reduces operational overhead for teams that have already standardized on OTel instrumentation. The feature enters public preview and is available across all AWS regions where CloudWatch is offered. Source
