Microsoft AI Updates: April 2, 2026
1. Microsoft Commits Over $1 Billion to Thailand AI and Cloud Infrastructure
Microsoft announced plans to invest more than $1 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure across Thailand from 2026 to 2028, following a meeting between Vice Chair Brad Smith and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The investment spans data center buildout, a skills program targeting 150,000 worker certifications through partnerships with the Thai Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour, and collaborations with local companies including Gulf Development, Advanced Info Service, and True Corp. The deal follows Google’s launch of a Bangkok cloud region in January and extends the trend of hyperscalers competing for Southeast Asian AI infrastructure positioning. Source
